Status of the Store

Books & Bytes went out of business indefinitely in August of 2008 for fiscal reasons.  However, a new store, "Eyes of a Child," is in business at our location, and they are still selling some of the same books we had, as well as a wide variety of other interesting items.  Stop by and say hi to the owner of the new store.

If you want to buy any other books, most of our old inventory (click for a spreadsheet) is still available, and you can purchase books directly from the old store's owner (Mike Frank) by calling him at (850) 597-2046.

Final Sales Event this Sat. at Railroad Square

This Saturday, September 22nd, 2008, from 11:30-5, Books & Bytes will be holding its final sales event under its current name and owner, a half-price sidewalk sale, at Railroad Square in Tallahassee, outside The Other Side Vintage, 625A Industrial Dr.  (Their number is 224-6666.)

New Owner On the Way!

Good News!  A buyer has appeared, so instead of closing our doors for ever, Books & Bytes (or some of its assets, at least) is now in the process of being transferred to its new owner!  It will take a few weeks for us to complete this process, but hopefully, the store will be reopening in late September.  Watch for it!

NOTE:  Although the store is not officially open or maintaining regular business hours at present, if you have trade credit on account with us that you wish to use, or if there is a book you have ordered that you would like to pick up, you may call the (old) owner at 597-2046 to arrange a time to come in to get your books.

Going Out of Business

Books & Bytes is almost out of capital, and we will be permanently closing our doors at the end of this month.  Our last open day is currently planned to be Friday, August 29th.  During our final week of operation (Aug. 25th - Aug. 29th) we will have a going-out-of-business sale, with all books marked down to half price.

We have enjoyed serving the community, but at this point, all of our own financial resources have been exhausted, and the only way that we could remain open is if a wealthy local benefactor or benefactor(s) wished to help us out by either giving us a large donation or a large loan, buying the store and operating it at a loss, or buying shares.  If you are (or know) someone who might wish to do this, please call Mike at (850) 597-2046.

As of now, we are accepting no more used books for trade.  From now until we close, customers who already have trade credit on account with us may redeem it by using it to pay for up to 100% of their purchases.  After we close, you may request a refund of any remaining trade credit by emailing refunds@BooksAndBytes.biz.  However, since the business is going bankrupt, we cannot guarantee our ability to continue to fulfill these requests after about Sep. 15th.

From now through August 31st, Books & Bytes is holding a special Back-to-School sale, with 20% discounts on all childrens' books (from newborn through young adult), as well as books on education, teachers' guides, school reading-list books, and any college textbooks or home-school texts that are ordered through our store.  Furthermore, school faculty and administrators can sign up to receive a 20% educational discount on all books year-round.

Ongoing Clearance Sale!

Currently and until further notice, we are placing excess books on a Clearance table which is out front on our sidewalk when the weather is good.  All books on this table are automatically 70% off of the regular marked price, or, if you buy 1 book at the regular price, you can get 3 others (of equal or lesser value) for free!  This table currently features mainly small romance, suspense, and thriller paperbacks, including many by popular authors.

Susan L. Womble, author of Newt's World: Beginnings will be visiting our store in the afternoon of Saturday, July 26th, from 1:00-3:00 pm.  She will be signing copies of her book (now on sale at Books & Bytes) and will be leading a variety of fun activities for kids.

Summertime Romance Sale!

Throughout the months of June and July, Books & Bytes will be holding a special "Summertime Romance Sale!" During this seasonal event, we will be stocking a larger number of newly-released romance novels than usual, and we will also be distributing coupons, good for discounts on new and used romance novels, mysteries, and other popular "beach reading" material. Look for our ad in the circular that will appear in Gadsden county mailboxes in late June/early July, or if you can't wait until then, you can print your own, or use some extras that we will have at the counter starting June 1.

We had our Grand Opening!

Books & Bytes had its Grand Opening Celebration, as planned, on Friday and Saturday, May 2nd-3rd, during QuincyFest. We had lots of balloons, free food, and discounted books! The event was very well attended, and we had a very nice ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, with the City Manager & County Commissioner in attendence, which was featured on TV on channel 13 last night. Our kids (and others) attended the event too, and had a great time at the store as well as at the rest of the festival. Blues music and the smell of good BBQ wafted in the door all day!
